IRS Notice Review and Response Preparation
This service is limited to the review of one IRS notice for one tax year and one primary issue, together with the preparation of a written response. It does not include bookkeeping cleanup, preparation of an amended tax return, recalculation of business records, legal representation, direct communication with the IRS, or any other additional work.
Please purchase the service before submitting your information. After payment, you will receive a form where you must provide your name, email address, phone number, a clear copy of the complete IRS notice, including every page and attachment, and a brief explanation of the situation.
Your explanation should include any relevant facts you already know. You do not need to provide a long personal history, but you should explain what happened before the notice was issued, whether another tax preparer was involved, whether you are aware of any errors in the original tax return, and what result you expected. This information is important because an IRS notice does not always clearly explain the underlying issue.
For example, a client of another accountant came to us after receiving an IRS notice stating that the expected refund had been canceled and that several thousand dollars were now due. The notice itself did not clearly explain the reason. However, the client told us that the previous accountant had made an error that caused the IRS to disallow certain tax credits and deductions.
After reviewing the case, additional services were required. We prepared an amended tax return and submitted the corrected return and supporting documents to the IRS. Ultimately, the client did not have to pay the proposed balance, and the IRS released the refund. However, the process was lengthy and would have taken even longer if the client had not provided the relevant background information at the beginning.
Every IRS notice contains a response deadline. Missing information can reduce the time available to investigate the issue, prepare an accurate response, and submit the necessary documents. To avoid unnecessary delays, please provide all relevant facts available to you when completing the form. If additional clarification is required after reviewing the notice and your information, we will contact you directly. The completed response will be sent to the email address provided in the form.
